Pumpkins for Kids 2009

Venetucci Farm’s Pumpkins for Kids pumpkin give-away has ended for 2009 with over 6,000 school-aged children participating, plus many parents, teachers, siblings and volunteers! This year’s program was by all accounts a great success and featured volunteer docents who taught at stations, sharing with participants important aspects of Venetucci Farm. Highlights included:

  • Hearing about the Venetucci family and the farm’s history
  • Meeting animals raised at Venetucci farm including Tamworth pigs, chickens, geese, ducks, Suffolk Punch & Belgian draft horses.
  • Digging worms in our worm bin and learning about the role worms play on a healthy farm
  • Making compost and finding out how that helps our farm’s soil
  • Shelling beans and taking kernels off of corn cobs
  • Visiting our Farm Stand
  • Taking group pictures in front of our 1936 Venetucci Farm wagon
  • And of course visiting our Pumpkin Patch
Despite the deer and early freeze, we had enough pumpkins for all of the students who participated. We look forward to another great year in 2010!
