About the Foundation

The El Paso County Bar Foundation was established in March 2002 as the charitable arm of the El Paso County Bar Association.

The purposes of the Foundation are to:

  1. Promote the education, knowledge and awareness of the law;
  2. Improve the administration of justice and the delivery of legal services;
  3. Assist in providing legal services to those who are unable to afford them;
  4. Provide scholarships and grants consistent with these purposes;
  5. Serve similar charitable and community needs in El Paso and Teller Counties.

Organization and Mission Statement

The El Paso County Bar Foundation was established in March, 2002, to promote the education, knowledge and awareness of the law; improve the administration of justice and the delivery of legal services; assist in providing legal services to those who are unable to afford them; provide scholarships and grants consistent with these purposes; and serve similar charitable and community needs in El Paso and Teller Counties.  The Foundation is the charitable arm of the El Paso County Bar Association and is organized as a Donor Advised Fund of the Pikes Peak Community Foundation. A Board of Directors manages the activities of the Foundation under the general umbrella of the El Paso County Bar Association.

Programs

Annual Dinner Gala
Each year the Foundation holds an annual Dinner Gala.  The proceeds from the event will benefit local non-profits, such as Teen Court, Court Care, Safe Passage, and CASA.

Scholarships
The Foundation, in partnership with the Joseph Henry Edmondson Foundation, the Coulter Foundation and the El Pomar Foundation, has established a law student scholarship program to support students who have expressed a desire to practice law in El Paso County after graduation. The Ruth Rouss Scholarship program provides scholarships for women and the Ben Wendelken Scholarship program for men at both the University of Denver and University of Colorado law schools.

Grants
The Foundation has been accomplishing its mission through the award of grants to non-profit organizations. The Foundation has awarded grants to: Teen Court, Mock Trial Competition, Theatreworks for the production of To Kill a Mockingbird, Legal Aid Foundation, the Diversity Committee of the Bar Association, Cynergetics Institute for a community restorative justice program, Court Care. The Foundation will continue to partner with other organizations to support worthy charitable causes.
