Pinello – Venetucci Birding Programs 2017
Pinello Ranch: For the past 8 years PPCF has leased Pinello Ranch from Colorado Springs Utilities for agricultural production and education programs, including Birding Hikes, School and Summer Programs. CSU and PPCF mutually agreed to terminate the lease as of February 1, 2017. CSU is currently developing a master plan for use of the property which includes the implementation of a wetlands mitigation project.
Venetucci Farm has applied for a Special Use Permit for 2017 to allow us to continue offering our popular education programs beginning in late spring/early summer after the wetland construction is complete.
Venetucci Farm: In 2017 we will offer a full suite of birding programs on our Venetucci Farm Birding Trail (VFBT). Many of you had the opportunity to bird with us last year using this trail and know how wonderful the birding is! We were treated to aerial dogfights between Red-tailed Hawks and Swainson’s Hawks on a regular basis along with Red-tailed Hawks dueling with Golden Eagles during our outing for the 2016 Pikes Peak Birding and Nature Festival.
What the VFBT is best known for is the incredible diversity of songbirds, especially the chorus of songsters we hear during nesting season. In 2017 we will offer Guided Birding Hikes during Spring and Fall Migration, as well as our popular Birding by Ear series in Early Summer. These outings will be complemented by Bird Banding demonstrations with our long time bander Jenyva.
VFBT will also be open for Self-guided birding beginning in Spring of 2017!
To register for bird hikes, or to receive notification for future birding hikes, email David Rudin.
